TEXAS HIGH WINS 14-0 DEFENSIVE BATTLE TO REMAIN TOPS IN 7-5A

The Maverick defense has been ON FIRE in the first two district games, giving up only 17 total points.

The Maverick offense has been equally ICE COLD in the same time span, failing to score any points in eight quarters.

Friday night Texas High used a sufficient ground game and run-the-clock offense to take a 14-0 win over Marshall.

The win keeps Texas High at the top of the district standings at (3-0) while Marshall falls to third place at (1-1) behind (2-0) Nacogdoches as well.

The Tigers opened the game with a score when they hit a 52 yard bubble pass to take a 7-0 lead with 9:47 left in the first quarter.

Then the defensive showdown started for both teams as punts became a theme for the night.

Texarkana would get a huge punt return to the Marshal 20, but a failed 34 yard field goal kept the score 7-0.

Marshall finally put together an impressive drive as they moved from their own 18 to the TIger 20, but penalties would stall them and they came away empty-handed.

Texas High held on to the 7-0 lead at halftime.

Disaster would strike in the third when the Mav offense fumbled the ball and the TIgers recovered at the Marshall 40.

A 38 yard TD run would make it 14-0 with 3:26 left in the third.

Marshall would again threaten to score, driving to the Texarkana 6, but would fail to get in once again.

The Tigers ran the clock out to preserve the win.

Marshall finished the game with a paltry 106 yards.  92 on the ground and 14 passing.

Texas High finished with 266 total yards on the night.
