Mavericks Ranked #24 In Preseason Poll by Dave Campbell Texas Football

For 60 years Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine has been a summer rite of passage for coaches, players, and fans to see where their high school team is predicted to finish in the district race.

The DCTX team has tabbed another successful year for the Marshall Mavericks in the 2025 version of their preseason 5A Div II poll.

Marshall entered the poll at #24 after finishing the 2025 season with a (10-3) record.

The poll is littered with multiple teams Marshall is very familiar with.

South Oak Cliff is #2 on the poll.  Marshall fell to SOC in the region semifinals last season en route to their fourth consecutive state championship game.

District rival Texas High is sitting at the #6 slot.  The Mavs fell to THS last season in a thrilling game in which Marshall failed on a 2 point conversion going for the road win. The Tigers fell to Port Neches-Groves.

Midlothian Heritage comes in at #17.  Marshall has faced the Jaguars in the Area round of the playoffs the last two seasons, splitting the series with barn-burner games in both match-ups.

Closer to home.... Marshall is picked to finish in second place in district 7-5A behind predicted champion Texas High.

Marshall is picked to finish as the #2 seed, where they have finished four of the last five seasons.  While (0-5) vs. Tx High, Marshall is (19-2) Vs. the rest of the district.

MP, who has missed out on the post season the last two seasons is the pick for #3.  The Tigers lost season finales in 2023 & 24 to miss out on the playoffs.

Whitehouse has become an annual playoff team and has been taken for the fourth and final slot.

Hallsville squeezed into the playoffs last season with some late season heroics and a collapse by the Mount Pleasant Tigers.  They are looking for the upset again.

Nacogdoches is picked to finish in sixth place after back to back disappointing seasons in 2023 and 2024.  The Dragons are looking to return to the post season.

Jacksonville has struggled mightily for nearly a decade no matter if they are in 5A or 4A.  A new coach enters in 2025 to bring about new found hope.

If predictions hold true to serve for both 7-5A and 8-5A, Marshall would host Montgomery for a Bi-District playoff game rematch from 2024 at Maverick Stadium.

That would likely set up an Area round playoff of Marshall Vs. Midlothian Heritage for the THIRD consecutive season.

South Oak Cliff would likely be waiting for another rematch with Marshall in the region semifinals.  It would be 4th playoff game between MHS and SOC since 2014.

Get ready MAV NATION.  Looks like we are in for another exciting season this fall!!!
