Marshall Storms Past Tyler Legacy in 55-28 Victory

Marshall and Tyler Legacy engaged in a high scoring back-and-fourth affair Friday night at Rose Stadium that saw the Mavericks run away with a 55-28 road victory. 

 

The win improves Marshall to (2-1) on the season as they continue to prepare for district 7-5A play.​

The Mavs opened the game with a 75 yard drive that only took 2:05 off the clock for a quick 7-0 lead.

Legacy matched the effort with a 1:07 drive that knotted the game up at 7-7.

Marshall then went on a long 70 yard drive that took a whopping 7:03 off the clock for a 14-7 lead.  

Legacy went on another long drive, but stalled deep in Maverick territory.  The 40 yard field goal attempt was no good and the Mavericks would take over.  

Another long drive for the Mavs gave them a 21-7 lead.

But the Red Raider passing game kept them in the game as they once again cut the Mav lead to 21-14 with 3:00 left in the half.

The Mavs scored against just before the half to take a 28-14 lead with :07 left on the clock.

Legacy wasted no time after the break cutting the lead again with a 53 yard TD pass just 1:32 into the third to make it 28-21 in favor of the Mavs.

Another score by Marshall would put them up 35-21, but once again Legacy would answer to make it 35-28.

The Marshall defense made it stand at that point.

A late third arter score pushed the game to 42-28.  

Legacy looked as if they would score again, but an interception at the Marshall 3 ended the threat.  The Mavs then drove 97 yards for the 49-28 lead.

 

Marshall piled up 573 yards on the ground and 61 yards passing for a total of 634 yards on the night.

Legacy had 279 yards passing and 173 on the ground for a total of 452 yards.

Semaj Gatson had 271 yards on 26 carries for 3 scores while Isaiah Bush had 153 yards on 18 carries with 2 scores.
