Marshall wrapped up their playoff fate last week with their win over Hallsville to nail down the #2 seed in the district.
They closed out the regular season against a Whitehouse team that has struggled all season long.
In the end... the Mavericks stampeded their way to a convincing 49-7 victory to wrap up an (8-2) regular season.
Things started bad for the Wildcats and got worse quickly. After failing on a fourth and 1 attempt at their own 25 yard line.....Marshall needed just 2 plays to put themselves up 6-0 just 2:18 into the contest.
On their next possession, the Whitehouse muffed a punt into the end zone that gave the Mavs a safety to make it 8-0.
The free kick gave Marshall outstanding field position at their own 41 yard line and they needed just one play, a 59 yard touchdown pass to make it 15-0 with 7:02 left in the first. The Mavs had 15 points on just 3 offensive plays.
Another Whitehouse punt gave Marshall another first quarter score to make it 22-0 with 13 ticks left.
The Wildcats would muff their second punt of the game and Marshall would recover at the Whitehouse 22 yard line. They would pay the price for their gaff again with another Mav score to make it 29-0.
It looked as if Marshall would get another score late in the first half as they marched down field, but an interception in the end zone by a Wildcat defensive player ended the threat and kept the score 29-0 headed into the intermission.
Marshall had 214 yards at the half while Whitehouse had 10 rushing and 0 passing.
The Mavs picked up where they left off when the second half got started with another quick score to make it 36-0 early in the third.
Another score late in the third made it 43-0.
A third muffed punt by the Wildcats marked another Marshall score to make it 49-0 headed into the final stanza.
Whitehouse finally got on the scoreboard midway through the 4th to make it 49-7.
The Mavs clinched their fifth consecutive win over Whitehouse and their 7th win out of 8.
Marshall will now prepare to host the Huntsville Hornets for a 5A Div II Bi-District playoff game.
