Marshall Dominates Tyler High 41-14 in Season Opener

Marshall opened the 2024 season against the Tyler Lions with a deluge of rain soaking Maverick Stadium Friday night.

The Mavericks released a deluge of their own as they rolled to a 41-14 victory over their ancient rivals.

Marshall rolled up 406 yards of offense while holding Tyler to less than 200 yards on the night, including 0 passing yards for the Lions.

Things had an auspicious start for the Mavs when the opening kickoff was recovered by Tyler in the Endzone for a quick 7-0 lead for the Lions just :06 seconds into the game.

The Mavs were unfazed and answered with an 80 yard drive that ended with a touchdown to make it 7-6 after the missed PAT.

Marshall took their first lead of the game when Isaiah Bush had a 40 yard score for the 13-7 lead.

Tyler answered back quickly with an 82 yard TD run to take a 14-13 lead.

The Lions would never score again as Marshall's defense went into high gear and the offense found its groove.

The Mavs would score just before halftime to take a 21-14 lead.

Bush would score again in the third to stretch the lead to 28-14.

QB Alton Henderson would connect with Tyler Jonnigan for a 64 yard touchdown and the 34-14 lead.

One more score in the fourth would wrap it up for the 41-14 final.
