MUST-WIN SITUATION Vs. MP
A furious come-from-behind bid by the Mavericks came up short friday night at Wildcat Stadium in Whitehouse.
Marshall lost 30-22 to fall to (3-4) overall and (1-3) in district play.
Whitehouse held off a fierce effort by Marshall to improve to (7-0) on the season and (4-0) in district play.
They remain tied with Texas High for first place in 9-5A, while Marshall is currently in fifth place.
The Wildcats took a 16-0 lead into the locker room at halftime after dominating the first half.
Marshall came out and cut the lead to 16-7just 34 seconds into the third quarter.
It looked like WH had put the game away with two thid quarter scores to take a commanding 30-7 lead.
However.... Marshall made things interesting in the fourth.
A Maverick score with 7:18 left in the game made it 30-15 after the two point conversion.
An onside kick recovered by the Mavs gave them the ball back quickly, in which they scored again to pull within 30-22 with 5:53 left.
Whitehouse ended the game with a crucial drive in which they overcame THREE third down situations to move the chains.
Marshall had 237 yards on the night with 126 rushing and and 111 passing.
QB Brent Burris was 11-28 with two TDs and three INTs.
Marshall had 5 turnovers on the night that lead to 18 Whitehouse points.
Whitehouse had 319 total yards with 172 coming through the air and 147 rushing.
Marshall will host Mount Pleasant for homecoming festivities.
FRESHMEN & JV TEAMS FALL TO WH
The Maverick Freshman and Junior Varsity teams fell to Whitehouse Thursday night.
The 9th grade Red team fell 22-12 in a hard-fought game. Marshall suffered their first district loss. They are (4-2) on the season and (3-1) in district play.
The 9th grade White team did not play.
The Junior Varsity fell to Whitehouse 41-12, dropping to (2-4) on the season and (2-2) in 9-5A play.
They will face off against Mount Pleasant next.
The Marshall Mavericks control their own destiny concerning the playoffs with three weeks left of the regular season.
The Mavs enter the game (3-4) on the season and (1-3) in district 9-5A play.
Mount Pleasant is also (3-4) and (1-3) in district play.
Marshall is coming off of a disappointing 30-22 loss to undefeated Whitehouse.
Mount Pleasant is coming off of a forfeit win over Hallsville due to COVID-19 issues.
The Mavericks are in a must-win situation this week if they hope to remain in the playoff chase.....
Marshall controls their own destiny with three games remaining in the regular season. Mount Pleasant, Hallsville, and Nacogdoches remain on the schedule.
Win all three games... and the Mavs will head into the playoffs for the eighth season in a row and for the 14th time in 17 seasons.
A loss could be devastating for Marshall.

District 10-5A is shaping up to be just as good as advertised.

Huntsville continues to dominate the district as they remain undefeated on the season.
Montgomery continues to win and is setting themselves up for a district title showdown with Huntsville.
Lake Creek is also in the playoff chase with A&M Consolidated hot on their heels.
Rudder, Fulshear, and LC are all but out of the race.
