MAVERICKS PREPARE FOR 7 ON 7
MARSHALL TO PARTICIPATE IN 7 on 7 LEAGUE AND SQT
The Marshall Maverick football team will be entering the summer phase of their workouts with the close of the school year.
Strength and conditioning will be paramount in the weight room in June and July as they prepare for August workouts.
Many players will also we participating in 7 on 7 action in June as well.
Marshall is expected to participate in a weekly league. The day has not been announced yet, but the usual suspects are likely to return as opponents including Carthage, Elysian Fields, Evangel, and Jefferson/Waskom. More info will be released in the coming days.
The Mavs are also expected to participate in the Tyler 7 on 7 State Qualifying Tournament (SQT) with a chance to advance to the state tournament in College Station.
There may be another SQT after the Tyler meet, but has not been announced.
SPRING FOOTBALL IS IN THE AIR
MAV SPRING FOOTBALL IN FULL SWING; RED/WHITE GAME SET
The Mavs are full throttle into Spring football drills as they prepare for the annual Red and White scrimmage to cap off the 2023-24 school year.
Marshall proved last fall that they can compete with the best teams in Texas when they had #2 Midlothian Heritage on the ropes in a 5A Division II Area playoff game.
The Jags were on the ropes headed into halftime as Marshall had a 14-3 lead.
Highly ranked Heritage roared back for a heartbreaking 21-14 loss for the Mavs.
Marshall started spring drills on April 22nd.
The annual Red and White game will be held on Tuesday May 21st.
The Mavs have finished either as the district champion or the district runner up every season since 2015 except for 2020.
Marshall last appeared in the 5A region semifinals in 2018.
