Marshall will open the 2024 season against their oldest rivals on August 30th when the Tyler Lions come to Maverick Stadium.
The Mavs and Lions have been battling on the gridiron dating back to 1908, making it the oldest active rivalry for Marshall, one season older than the Longview series.

The Lions escaped with a 38-36 victory when Marshall failed to convert the two point conversion that would have forced a sixth OT stanza.
Prior to the 2023 game, Marshall made easy work of the Lions in 2022 with a big 40-29 victory.
Coach Woods enters his second season at Tyler, where the Lions finished (6-4) last season, just missing out on the 5A Div I playoffs.
Marshall finished (6-6) last season as the #2 seed in 9-5A Division II.
The Mavs earned a bi-district playoff win over Denison last year before falling in the area round to #5 Midlothian Heritage 21-14.
