Marshall has advanced to the Area round of the playoffs for the first time since 2021 when they beat Bryan Rudder in a Bi-District playoff game.
The Mavs are looking to advance to the 5A Division II Region II semifinals for the first time since 2018.
Marshall has advanced to the Region semifinals most recently in 2018, 2015, 2009, and 2007.
The winner of the Marshall Vs. Midlothian Heritage game will take on the winner of the Dallas South Oak Cliff Vs. Melissa game.
South Oak Cliff is the back to back defending state champions, while Melissa is (10-1) having spent most of the regular season ranked #1 in the state before losing to district rival Lovejoy in the regular season finale.
Heritage enters the game as the #2 in the state in class 5A division II according to Dave Campbell's Texas Football final poll of the season.
Marshall is ranked #15 in 5A Division II region II.
